Project Killer B's started out as nothing more than a studio project. Brook and I had taken some time off from playing live and he called me up one day and asked if I wanted to join him in his home studio to try to finish off some music he had written at the tail end of Nova Cain Tongue. Brook was teaching himself the finer parts of the recording process and we were both the guinea pigs. We started out at his home studio and recorded the songs and then Brook would find himself a different brand of recording software he liked better, and we would re-record all the songs. This would continue on for a couple of years until he decided to move his studio to his shop where he had built a full studio with a vocal isolation booth because what else does a guy who doesn't sleep do? While all this was going on, we were asked to be part of a jam night in Cumberland, WI. There was no name for it, and it just happened that the drummers name was Brian. Enter the Killer B's Jam. That went on for a short time and Brook was still interested in playing live, so we came up with a two man show which was named Project Killer B's, but we didn't play any of our original material. While we were recording, Brook had asked if we could re-record some of the material I had written in Bad Jack/Bones Gang. I said as long as it's different enough from what was done earlier, we could do it. I was very pleased with his ideas for that old material and let him run with it. Most of the stuff we recorded was already 10 to 15 years old and it took us the better part of 6 years to finish when we released it in 2015. If anyone saw the ReverbNation site where we had the music up until a little whole ago, it mentioned our drummer as "Ben E Drain". That was another Brook thing. He had named his Mac server "Ben E Drain" and created most of the drum parts on that machine. Another note: Some of the drum tracks were written by our old drummer from Nova Cain Tongue and Hairball - Blake Seybolt. He created the midi files for what would become "Pinch" and "Away" and had given them to Brook years before. I will greatly miss hanging out with my brother and picking his creative mind and laughing a lot. Incorporating unique instruments into my music.
